This Privacy Policy explains how 17Digit ("17Digit", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website, the free form tool, and the 17Digit dealer platform (together, the "Service").

1. Information we collect

• Account & dealership details you provide at signup — name, email, phone, dealer license number, sales-tax number, and business address.
• Content you enter to run your business — vehicle records (including VINs), sale and buyer/customer details used to generate documents, titles, and packets.
• Lead information — if you use the free form tool, the email address you submit and the form context (e.g., state and document type).
• Payment information — processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
• Communications — emails you exchange with us, and SMS messages sent with your consent.
• Usage & technical data — IP address, browser and device information, and log data. We use browser storage (localStorage) to keep you signed in and remember preferences such as language and theme.

2. How we use information

• Provide, operate, and improve the Service and generate the documents you request.
• Decode VINs by sending the VIN to the U.S. NHTSA vPIC public database.
• Process subscriptions and payments, and manage your trial and account.
• Send transactional messages (account, billing, document, and support emails/SMS) and, where permitted, occasional product updates you can opt out of.
• Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Service, under contract and only as needed:

• Stripe — payment processing.
• Postmark — transactional email delivery.
• Twilio — SMS delivery (consent-based).
• NHTSA vPIC — VIN decoding (VIN only).
• Hosting & infrastructure providers that run our servers.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a business transfer.

4. Your dealership's customer data

When you enter your customers' information to generate documents, you are the controller of that data and 17Digit processes it on your behalf to provide the Service. You are responsible for handling your customers' information in accordance with applicable law.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, then retain and delete it in line with our legal and operational requirements. You may request deletion as described below.

6. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices & rights

• Email: unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any such message, or by contacting us.
• SMS: reply STOP to opt out of text messages at any time.
• Access, correction, deletion: email us to access, correct, or delete your personal information, subject to legal limits.
• Depending on your state, you may have additional rights over your personal information; contact us to exercise them.

8. Children

The Service is intended for businesses and is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, additional notice.
